I’ve just spent five days skiing in Alpe d’Huez with a group of friends. Five days of learning and laughing, feeling the burn in my legs, and soaking up every second of it as it was a soul feeding trip. But between the ski runs and après-ski chats, something really stood out to me…
Not everyone on the slopes was having the same experience.
I saw people in their 50s and 60s absolutely flying past me, making it look effortless. Then I saw others, some even younger – struggling, stopping every few minutes, wincing as they bent down to adjust their boots. The difference wasn’t age. It was how well they’d looked after themselves over time.
Lifespan vs. Healthspan
We all want to live a long life (lifespan), but the real question is—how many of those years will we actually be able to enjoy?
Living to 85 is great, but if the last 20 years are spent avoiding stairs, missing out on adventures, and watching instead of doing, is that really the goal? Healthspan is about keeping your body strong, mobile, and capable for as long as possible, so you don’t have to sit things out.
The Slopes Don’t Lie
Skiing is one of those things that exposes where your body is at. It demands strength, endurance, balance, mobility and skill—things that don’t just stick around as we get older unless we actively work on them.
The same applies to everyday life:
🏃♂️ Can you still run after your kids or grandkids without feeling wrecked?
💪 Can you lift, carry, and move without aches and pains holding you back?
⛰️ Can you say ‘yes’ to adventures without worrying if your body can handle it?
If we don’t invest in our healthspan, we slowly start opting out of life—not because we want to, but because we have to.
The Good News? You’re in Control
The people still skiing in their 70s? They didn’t just get lucky. They made small, consistent choices over time to stay strong, stay active, and stay capable.
And the best part? It’s never too late to start.
So, here’s my question for you:
👉 What’s something you LOVE doing that you never want to give up? Or perhaps you have been meaning to get back to a sport or hobby you have put off for too long?
Drop it in the comments—I’d love to hear what keeps you moving! Or DM to get help on getting back to living life at the fullest!
