Nutrition Coaching Success Story Newton Abbot: How Kelly Lost 7.5kg, Beat Knee Pain, and Got Her Energy Back

IMG 8521 1

If you’d asked Kelly six months ago whether she’d be back playing netball, she’d probably have laughed. Not because she didn’t want to. Because she didn’t think she had it in her anymore.

Kelly’s 47, lives locally here in Newton Abbot, and joined us in January this year. Her story is one we hear more often than you’d think — someone who used to be active, lost their routine, and couldn’t find their way back in on their own. If that sounds familiar, this one’s for you.

The Trigger: When Life Gets in the Way

Kelly used to go to the gym regularly. Then COVID happened. She caught it, and as she put it, it “completely wiped me out.” She stopped going. Getting out of bed in the morning became a struggle. Her energy just disappeared, and once the routine was broken, it stayed broken.

This is the bit people don’t talk about enough. It’s rarely laziness or lack of willpower that stops someone getting back into fitness. It’s that the door back in feels harder to find the second time round, especially when you’re not sure where to start or who to trust with it.

Why Nutrition Coaching Made the Difference

Kelly started with three personal training sessions to build confidence and get moving safely again. From there she moved into our small group training sessions.

But the real shift happened when she added a month of our group nutrition coaching on top of her training. This is consistently what we see with members: training builds the habit, but nutrition coaching is what turns that habit into visible, lasting results. Exercise alone can only take you so far if what’s happening on the plate isn’t supporting it.

Over six months, training and nutrition coaching combined, Kelly:

  • Lost 7.5kg
  • Reduced her body fat by 13%
  • Hasn’t had knee pain in months, after years of her arthritis flaring up and leaving her knee swollen and painful for weeks at a time
  • Increased her energy to the point she felt able to take on new things again

Every member here works with a Customer Success Coach and goes through our Level Method assessment, which is how we track this kind of progress properly rather than just guessing. It’s standard for everyone, not a special add-on, but it’s a big part of why members like Kelly can point to real, measurable change rather than “I feel a bit better.”

Beyond the Scales: Getting a Life Back

The numbers matter, but they’re not really the headline for Kelly. What she talks about most is what she’s got back.

She’s more confident. Her knee, which used to swell and ache for weeks on end, has settled down. And she’s joined a netball team — something she says she simply wouldn’t have had the energy or stamina for before starting with us.

That’s the bit that sticks with us too. This wasn’t about a number on the scales for its own sake. It was about a 47-year-old getting back to doing things she’d quietly written off.

What Kelly Says About the Community

When we asked Kelly what she likes about training here, it wasn’t the equipment or the programming she mentioned first. It was the people.

She talked about how daunting it can feel walking in on your own for the first time, and how everyone made her feel welcome from day one. When she tried something new, people cheered her on. That encouragement, she says, isn’t something you always get elsewhere.

If you’re nervous about starting, that’s worth sitting with. You’re not walking into a room full of strangers who’ll judge you. You’re walking into a room that’s used to welcoming people exactly where Kelly was six months ago.

Kelly’s Advice If You’re On the Fence

We asked Kelly what she’d say to someone nervous about taking that first step. Her answer was blunt and simple:

“Just do it. Go for it.”

No overthinking, no perfect plan needed first. Just the first session.

Thinking About Your Own Fresh Start?

Kelly’s transformation didn’t come from a strict diet or a punishing training plan. It came from proper coaching, a nutrition plan that actually fit her life, and a community that didn’t let her quietly disappear the way she had before.

If you’re carrying around your own version of “I used to be active” or “I’ll start when I feel more ready,” we’d rather you didn’t wait for six more months to pass first.
