January: the month we “know what to do”… and still feel stuck 🤔
January is full of good intentions.
If you’re a busy parent or professional (especially 40+), you might feel like you already know the solution:
“I just need to exercise more.”
And you’re not wrong. But after the festive season, life doesn’t suddenly get quieter. Work is busy, kids are busy, sleep is inconsistent, stress is real. You’re trying to rebuild routines while carrying the mental load.
Add a few weeks of more food, more drinks, less structure (for enjoyment, comfort, coping, or just life) and that gradual creep can knock confidence and add to the waistline.
So you want to do something about it. Fast.
That’s where most people make the same mistake.
Exercise isn’t mainly for burning calories
Yes, exercise burns calories. But that’s not the main job of training.
The real purpose of training is to change how your body functions so you feel better and look better:
- Build and protect muscle (especially important as we get older)
- Improve energy and your hormonal response (that “I feel good again” effect)
- Move better (mobility, joints, fewer aches)
- Strengthen bones and resilience
- Build confidence because your body starts doing what you ask it to do
When you pair training with simple nutrition + a habit-based approach, that’s where results become sustainable.
The two questions most people avoid (but need to ask)
- Do I actually know how to do this sustainably?
- If I’ve tried before… what’s going to be different this time?
If the plan is “try harder” or “be more motivated”, that’s not a plan. That’s a short-term burst waiting to fizzle out.
Why a “FREE trial session” or “access to equipment” isn’t the solution
A free trial workout can be useful. But it rarely solves the real problem.
Because a random session is exactly that: random.
Think about it:
- Do you know what programme is appropriate for your goal?
- Do you know what intensity you should be training at right now?
- Does the coach know your biggest struggles and why they keep showing up?
- Do you have a coach? Or did you think going solo would work?
- Have injuries, limitations, confidence, stress, sleep and current fitness been considered?
- Do you know how to perform the movements safely and effectively?
If you genuinely know what programme and intensity you need, that’s awesome. Most people don’t. And it’s not their fault.
This is why so many people fall into one of two traps:
- Too hard, too soon: burnout, niggles, quitting
- Not hard enough or not structured: lots of effort, little change
The smarter start at Primal Mvmnt: a FREE intro conversation
At Primal Mvmnt, the first step is not “jump into a session and hope for the best”.
The first step is a FREE intro conversation.
It’s a proper chat where we get clarity on:
- what you want to achieve and why it matters
- what’s been getting in the way up to now
- lifestyle, stress, time, routines, confidence
- injuries, limitations, and your current fitness level
- what you’ve tried before and what didn’t stick
Then we build the best plan possible and match you to the right service.
We use SMART goals (because they work)
SMART goals mean your plan is: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-bound.
It turns “I want to get fitter” into something you can actually execute in real life.
Our 4 services (and who they’re best for)
1) Personal Training (1:1)
Best if you want fully tailored coaching, extra support, or you’re working around injuries, low confidence, or a very specific goal.
2) Semi Private Training (3:1)
Best if you want high coaching support with a small group feel. More accountability, more attention, still personal.
3) Small Group PT (10:1)
Best if you want structure, community, and coaching while keeping things fun and consistent. Ideal for busy people who want momentum and routine.
4) Nutrition Coaching (1:1 or Group)
Best if nutrition has been the missing piece, you want simple habits that stick, and you’re tired of starting over every Monday.
